Fabulous Head Piece

Headpieces are the new veils!!  I found this great website which offers a great selection of headpieces which can be worn with an everyday look to your wedding day.  If your wedding dress is on the simple side, then this is a great way to add flare to your wedding day ensemble. Pair it with a chunky necklace, and you will be the envy of everyone.

A different kind of ring

Something that not a lot of brides or hostesses think about is the napkin ring.  I think the napkin gets neglected, yet a simple craft can enhance the look of your table.  Most restaurants will fan the napkin in the glass, which actually is very unsanitary. Think of all the dust that is on that napkin that has been sitting on the shelf, and is now in your water glass.  And let me tell you... I found out some information about dust particles which grossed me out, so lets avoid the glass.

Napkin rings can be anything from eleborate designs, to something as simple as ribbon.  Beaded wire.... a leaf... an old broach, twine... anything goes.  It does take a bit of work to prep the napkins, but enlist in friends or your wedding coordinator, or see if your venue will do it for you.

A Gourmet Meal

Yesterday was my mom's 50th birthday, and we wanted to do something different for her soiree.  We hired a private a chef to come to the house and cook us a wonderful dinner. Thanks to Trevor from 5 Senses Gourmet, we had a night of laughs, drinks, and amazing food.  Our family sat around the kitchen island while our very own chef cooked, and showed us everything he was doing to cook our dinner. It was very interactive, and I learned lots of great cooking tips.

If you are looking for something unique to do for your party, then check out 5 Senses gourmet website. http://www.5sensesgourmet.com/

Smells like flowers...........

This is the week of flowers. Corry, Melanie, and I attended a floral open house and seminar. We learned some great new tips and tricks, while seeing some beautiful arrangements.  We met some great new people, and learnt so much.  Our teacher was Donald Yim of Westvan Florist in Vancouver BC. He is the creative director at the flower shop, and is a renowned florist.

Check out our facebook page for the full album of photos.....

An underwater illusion

Looking for a centerpiece that is simple, yet adds a bit of wow to your table? Check out this candle which appears to be lit while submersed in water. This is a very simple piece to put together, and can be done for a wedding in 3 to 5 vases, or you can pull this together for a last minute diner party centerpiece.

Take two similar shape vases and place a smaller one inside a larger one. Place a candle into the smaller vase.  Pour water into the larger vase (just make sure you do not overflow the water into the smaller vase). Make sure to put the vases into one another first before you pour the water. If not.... you will make a watery mess.  Next, add food coloring to get your desired colour (which is great...you can match it exactly to your colours).

For an extra added effect, place flowers or other objects into the large vase and let them float. Viola....less than 5 minutes and you have an incredible statement!

A little sentimental........

I have blogged about this before, but I just had to blog again. Here is the final product of a bouquet, which was made by one of our brides (Jenna). She did such an amazing job, and the story behind each broach brought something special to her wedding day. She had friends and family send broaches, and together they made a bouquet full of sentiment.  These type of ideas is what makes me happy to be in the wedding industry...this is the stuff I live for.

On your wedding day, be sure to think that this it is a special day for you and your husband to be, and your friends and family are there to share in your joy. Don't get caught up the wedding politics as I call it. Share joy, laugh a lot, and most of all...love <3

Sorry for the sappy blog....it's part of the job!! (best part that is)

Wrap it up!

Time to talk parties. There is so much that goes into to being a host/hostess, but what about when you are a guest. You may be bringing a gift for a guest of honour, or you want to show your appreciation to the host/hostess. As much as the gift is the most important, do not neglect the wrapping paper. I have never been a huge fan of gift bags. They are boring, and not fun to unwrap. A gift which is wrapped can be put out on display, and let all the other guests ooooh and ahhhh over your great creation.

When it comes to wrapping, anything goes. A great place to look is the dollar store for little items to add to the wrapping. Things like beads, or twigs can add a statement to your gift. Browse the internet for crafts to adorn your gift as well (Martha Stewart is a great place to start). Tissue paper flowers take a bit of time, but it is worth it in the end.  Choose your wrapping paper carefully. Look for paper which does not have gift patterns, or the ugly flowers (which is common). If you can't find nice paper, check out a craft store for beautiful paper or use something you have around the house. Brown paper or newsprint can be very creative.

If you are not skilled in wrapping (yo yo what up dawg...I just had to make that joke), then enlist in some help. Coming soon to designs studio & co. is couture gift wrapping. Time to spice up your presents everyone.

Hip to be a Square Cake

Wedding cakes... a staple to the wedding. They can showcase your personality, your wedding theme, and your taste for something tasty. As always, I am not a fan of the traditional, but a fan of the unique. I came across a few square wedding cakes, with unique touches that will add wow factor to anyones wedding.

In my search for the square cake, I also stumbled accross the history of having a wedding cake.  It started out with acient Greece and the breaking of bread over the head of the bride and groom. The guests would break the bread, which symbolized good fortune, health, and fertility. At the end, the guests would scramble for pieces of the bread to bring home with them, which in turn would give them the same good fortune.

I think I prefer to eat cake then to have bread in my hair.......

Couture Dresses

As I am ironing chair covers (yes my life is that exciting on a wild Thursday night), I discovered a movie based on Valentino and his Spring 2006 collection. This inspired me to look up designer dresses this evening. One website every bride should go on is http://www.moniquelhuillier.com/. Her dresses are stunning, beautiful, magnificent, and unfortunately pricey. A girl can dream though can't she?

To Top it Off

Time to talk cake toppers. I am not a huge fan of cake toppers as people, but I found this website which does custom caketoppers. They can be made to look like you, down to some cheeky ones that will make you giggle. They may not be for everyone, but cute nonetheless.

The Studio!

It's September 1st, but the studio isn't open yet. But here is a look at the inside of our studio.... a little bare bones at the moment, but soon to be spectacular! Stay tuned for the opening date (very...soon...)
