A Christmas Tree Napkin

At our DIY in Miramichi on Sunday, one of the ladies had an amazing technique for folding a napkin like a christmas tree.  I fell in love with it, and I had to share it with everyone. Here is the DIY on the Christmas Tree Napkin.

Using a square napkin, fold twice to form a smaller square.

Fold up each layer of the napkin to the top, leaving one inch between each fold.

Flip the napkin over, but be sure to hold on to the folds so they do not fall out.

Bring the left and right sides together, neatly aligning the top of each panel to form a triangular space at the top of the napkin.

Flip over the napkin again.  Peel the top layer towards the top to form a peak.  Repeat for every layer, and tuck the tip underneath the fold above it.

And now you have a Christmas Tree Napkin.  You can place it on a plate, or you can infold slightly, and prop it upright (easier said than done of course).

Wedd-iquette

As a wedding coordinator, I get asked a lot of ettiquette questions.  In light of that, we have created the wedd-iquette series where we will answer questions on wedding etiquette.

Question:  Is it acceptable to ask for money instead of a wedding gift? If I do not register, than they would have to give money instead, right?

Answer:  It is perfectly acceptable to receive money as a gift instead of receiving something through a registry.  Though it is not acceptable to indicate that on an invitation, or by not creating a registry.  The best method is by word of mouth.  Let your parents and close family and friends know that you would prefer to have money.  They in turn can spread the preference by word of mouth.  It is up to a guest whether s/he prefers to give you a gift or money, and they should not feel pressured to do one over another.  That is why it is a good idea to always have a registry.

Made up with Make up

The other day, I had Debby Clements who is a professional make up artist stop by the studio, and gave me a mini bride-over.  Being a lady who LOVES make-up, I never realized how many techniques there were to applying make-up, and that there is actually a make-up application specifically for brides.

When a professional make-up artist does your make-up for your wedding day, they keep in mind that you will be having your photo taken all day.  A great trick I learned was to apply a primer before your foundation which puts a layer over the skin to create a blank canvas.  Your foundation will be clean, and make you look flawless.  There are highlighting techniques that can be used on your face which again can compliment you, and make you look flawless when on camera.

There are so many more things to consider, and I am certainly no expert in the application process.  Keeping that in mind, I think it is very important to hire a professional make-up artist, and get a consultation so that you look even more amazing on your wedding day.

Unveiled

Veils can be time honoured tradition or a fashion statement to complete a stunning look. Either way, a bride should be informed before picking the perfect veil that suits her and her dress!  Here are a few things to consider when deciding on your veil:

-There are three lengths of veils.
The elbow length veil is most commonly used for formal and semi formal weddings, is generally used for gowns without a train and will enhance any detailing at or around the waist of the gown. It also compliments a gown with a full skirt.
The fingertip veil can be worn with any full length gown. It is not recommended for gowns with a train. It falls right at the fingertips of the bride if her hands are at her side and is used for formal and semi-formal weddings.
Cathedral veils are worn only for formal weddings. The veil will extend onto the floor at least six inches past the train for a very dramatic look.

- If you have an ornate dress, do consider a simple veil.  You don't want one to compete with the other.
- Dont' forget to bring your veil with you for your hair trial.  You and your stylist will want to decide if your veil will sit high or low in your hair
- If you are petit, don't go with a large veil. It will only make you look smaller
- Consider a narrow cut veil which creates the illusion on slimness
- If veils do not fit your personality, consider a bird cage which is smaller, and packs major style!!

The Long and Mostly Short of it

Ahhh the short wedding dress. Great for the backyard wedding, or the simple vows on the beach, or maybe a second time around bride.  The shorter length dress makes a great statement, and I don't think brides should be limited to that style of dress for smaller or more informal weddings.  Why not buy a fabulous coloured shoes, and show them off on your big day with an elaborate wedding dress that is cut around the knee.  This is something that isn't too typical, but soon will be an upcoming trend.  A short dress is a great way to be different, and add major style!

Cute as a Button

What we collect says a lot about our personalities.  Whether you collect buttons or coins, stamps or dolls... it all is a glimpse into your personality.  So when you are thinking about a theme for your wedding, look as close as your collections.  Whatever it may be, use your collection as your theme to help bring your personality to your wedding.

Let's start with a button collection :)  I hunted down some great ways to use your collection as your wedding theme.  Use it as a bouquet....for your favours....guest book...anything goes.  This is a great idea for the DIY bride who is crafty.  Enjoy!
